my super detailed morning routine for a successful day

I feel like I need to start this off by saying that this is in no way how every morning of my life goes. I have a 1 year old-things happen, it’s okay. This is the morning routine that I strive for, and when it happens, changes the whole trajectory of my day (I strategically put that word in this post because my sister was laughing so hard when I used it last time she was here. So ha, Meagan). Seriously though, an intentional morning gets you in the right headspace for the rest of your day. I get stressed super easily, so if a few extra steps in the morning help to keep my cortisol down, I’m in. I talk a lot about how waking up early and having time for myself has helped me, which is one of the reasons I’m sharing. A few people have messaged me as well and said they tried it and it + saw a huge difference, so I definitely needed to share! I also want to add that I know this sounds extremely long, but that’s just because I get really specific. The only thing that takes a while is my workout.

Now, without further ado, here is my ideal + super detailed morning routine:

5:00 am wake up– Yes, I know a lot of people are like, “no thank you!”, but hear me out. This seriously changes everything. On the days I let myself sleep and Keaton wakes me up- I’m doomed. The whole day I’m playing catch up or on “defense mode” as Ed Mylett would say. If I get up extra early though, I get to have time to myself, get everything together, and be in control of my day! It really helps me keep my emotions in check too if I have this time for myself. I’ve got to have some time for myself first thing or I’m already stressed, you know? Even if you aren’t getting up at 5, just try to wake up an hour earlier, see how it changes your day!

After I roll myself out of bed (on the first alarm, I am not a multiple snoozer-Jordon drives me crazy with that!) I go into my bathroom, brush my teeth, and wash my face off with cold water. I workout in the mornings, so I don’t want my skincare products from last night on my face clogging my pores, and I definitely don’t want to do my morning skincare routine before I sweat.

Coffee: I make my way to my new coffee maker that I am OBSESSED with and so glad I talked Jordon into getting! Now, I’ve talked about intermitten fasting before, and apparently I’ve been doing it wrong. The sweetener in my coffee + the almond milk I use disrupts intermitten fasting, but I’ve tried the alternative and I’m just not willing to give up my sweet coffee-so I half ass intermitten fasting. So I brew my coffee (sometimes hot, sometimes over ice-it just depends). While my coffee brews, I get another glass to froth my almond milk. I told y’all I will get specific with you, so this is exactly how I make my coffee. I fill the extra glass about halfway with almond milk or coconut milk (honestly, it’s just whatever I have). Toss is some cinnamon (balances the blood sugar), nutmeg, sometimes a little pumpkin spice, a squeeze of “sogave!” organic sweetener, and 2 tablespoons of inulin.

I know, what the hell is inulin right? Basically fiber. It helps with my half ass intermitten fasting so I don’t get hungry + decreases bloat. You can read more of the benefits here. I have heard about this from a few bloggers, but you definitely need to get this one because it is pure inulin-no extra crap! Now, listen to this part!! DO NOT start with a lot, your stomach will hurt so bad, it’s pure fiber you guys! Start with half a spoonful and slowly work your way up. Then you’ll love it!

From here my day goes 2 ways depending on the days I drive to San Marcos to workout, so let’s do that option first.

On M,W, F

After I make my coffee + get dressed, I go straight to Orange Theory San Marcos. I schedule my workouts for 6:15, so I’m done by 7:15. I usually stay for a bit after and hangout because the community there truly is the best! Then I walk over to Perk Up coffee- I talk about this all of the time on my insta stories. If you’re in San Marcos (Texas) you definitely have to go- it’s so cute + the best coffee! There’s also something really nice about a short walk in the morning especially now with the spring weather. My order here is a medium vanilla latte with coconut milk, topped with cinnamon- in case anyone was wondering! Then I run any errands if need be and go home to finish my routine.

On T & Th

I make my coffee (the same way as I mentioned before, over ice) and also get my large cup of water with ice and lemon. Get my cute pink yoga mat, set up in front of the TV, and do my PIYO workout. They’re just DVD’s you can get that are a mix of pilates and yoga. It’s a nice break from the high intensity of OTF. I like to switch it up so I can get the most of my workout. No law of diminishing return for me 🙂 Althoug I will add, OTF switches up their workouts everyday, so it’s not like you are doing the exact same thing. I like a little break from cardio + intensity though.

meditate: Okay, workout done, feeling good and ready to start the day. I would like to meditate first thing in the morning, but I would definitely fall asleep, so I have to wait until after I workout. I meditate 10 minutes with headspace, and it has been extremely helpful with my emotions!! I will add here though that this is technically a buddhist practice of meditating, but there is no mention of Buddha or religion. I use this time to relax and get in tune with my body, but I stay very aware that I am still sitting with God, in communication with Him. There is a time during every meditation that he says “let you mind do whatever it wants” and I take that time to pray or just sit, knowing I am in the presence of Him. This may not matter to you, but I thought it was worth mentioning in case you weren’t sure if you could do it!

devotional– I read my devotional for the day. This takes 2 seconds, and gets me in the right headspace (haha) and helps keep my eyes on the Lord for the day to come!

start today journal– This also takes hardly any time, but I really do think it has a great impact. You don’t necessarily need the journal for this, but you definitely should write down your goals everyday. Basically, the journal has you list 5 things you are thankful for THAT DAY. It’s different everyday so you can’t just say “my family”. Look for the tiny things to be grateful for! Then I write down my top 10 goals for this season and the one I am focusing on first. There have been so many studies that prove when you write down what you want it is much more likely to happen. I mean, there’s definitely nothing bad that can come of it.

planner– I can’t survive without a planner + my to do list. I have an Erin Condren planner that is hourly which I love (you can customize to whatever you want). I write down everything that I need to get done that day + on Mondays I do my weekly goals (I’m not too hard on myself if I don’t get to all of them). I also do monthly goals if you were wondering and everything is color coordinated.

make my bed– By this time Jordon is up getting ready if not already at work, so I have to make the bed. There is nothing worse than waking up to a messy house or coming home to a messy bed, right? It just feels good when everything is in its place. The space around you reflects what’s inside, so if everything is a disaster, you probably feel like a scatter brain. At least let the bed resemble cleanliness.

I want to link our comforter that I got on amazon for y’all because I am obsessed with it, so i know y’all will be too. Like a hotel, ugh!! Love a hotel bed.

Get ready– Ending my routine, obviously I’m getting ready. If I have a meeting or something I’ll shower, if not I like to wait for my bath at night (maybe gross?). Anyways, I’ll do that, my skincare routine (that I am working on perfecting now), and some days I put on makeup, but it’s nice to not have to all the time!

Okay, that was really long. I promise it doesn’t take forever, but it’s become so important to me. The days that I wake up and have to get going right away are just too stressful. I always feel like I’m behind and not making any headway on my list of things to do. Try getting up earlier and forming a routine that works well for you, and tell me how it goes!!

Is there anything I need to add to my routine? Let me know!

Thanks for reading!
